Danny has been spending a bit of time in Chicago working on a project, so we decided instead of him flying home, we'd both fly up and spend a weekend in Chicago. We love Chicago and it was Brayden's 2nd time (technically- I was 17 weeks with him when we went last time with my family in March 2008). And funny thing, I was exactly 17 weeks with Baby #2 in Chicago this time! For those that don't know, Danny and I met when he was in Chicago in business school so all of our dating weekends were in Chicago once a month and Houston once a month, so we have lots of fond memories of Chicago.
We had a wonderful weekend- I just love downtown Chicago- the weather was beautiful a couple of days, a bit rainy the other two- but we enjoyed every minute of our time together.
Mommy and Brayden on our first flight alone- he did great! Such a trooper!
Took our first walk to Ghiradelli on the Michigan Mile- he ordered a kids chocolate chip cone
I put it in a cup- look how huge it was! He and I finished every last drop!
Dinner at an Italian restaurant
Daddy had to work a bit on Friday, so we took a walk to Millenium park
To watch the boats on the Chicago River
Shared Daddy's favorite Black and White cookies with him after lunch
Took a walk to Navy Pier for fun and games
Brayden's 1st game of miniature golf
Under the historic Navy Pier ferris wheel- we didn't ride it- Daddy is leary of heights, Mommy is getting nauseaus with movement- so we'll try it next time!
Mommy and Daddy shared a funnel cake by the water on one of our first weekends in chicago, so Brayden got a Churro and we shared another funnel cake- delicious!
Sweet boys
Taking a water taxi back into the city- a short 10 minute boat ride, but Brayden loved it- we weren't too sure he was up for the 2 hour architectural boat cruise just yet
Mommy- 17 weeks with Baby #2
Late night snack at the Hershey Factory- a KIDS ice cream sundae
A trip to Chicago wouldn't be complete without a trip to Shedd- Mommy's favorite place! Brayden loved it and was mesmorized by all of the water creatures
Watching the Beluga Whale show and singing the famous Beluga Whale song Aunt Lauren taught Brayden
Wearing our cool 4D glasses for a Dora and Diego show- Brayden's 1st 4D and he did great! Makes us excited for a trip to Disney in the future
A really awesome Jellyfish exhibit- the ones above are called Upside down jelly fish
Brayden has started to really love stuffed animals- so he picked out a turtle for his souvenir for this trip- he names him Thomas the Turtle
Watching the penguins
They had a kids play area for them to climb built just like the penguin exhibit- even had penguin costumes for the kids to wear
Family picture with the city behind us
We walked back towards downtown and spent a couple of hours at Taste of Chicago- such a neat festival- over 60 different restaurants selling tastes of their famous food- we are enjoying Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza- newer company in the deep dish world- very good, but still not as good as Giordano's my favorite
Buckingham fountain
On our way back to the hotel, we passed the famous fountain in Millenium park and the kids were all playing in the water- why not let him get soaked in the 90 degree weather! He had a great time!
That evening, after rest time for all of us, we headed to the Lego store to check it out- unfortunetly, little one had already fallen asleep-
Sunday, we headed to breakfast at a fabulous place called Toast with about 8 tables in it and then to the Lincoln Park Zoo with a couple friends of Danny's from Kellogg grad school who still live in Chicago and have 2 boys- Jack who's Brayden's age and Matt who's 8 months old- we had a great time catching up and sharing boy stories :)
Riding the carousel, reluctantly!
Debbie and Brayden and Jack
In the monkey house, we were astonished that the Daddy and the eventually the Mommy with baby attached started putting on a show right in front of us- we were just lucky to have been there long enough to have a front row seat- it was amazing!
Brayden eating his first slice of Deep Dish Chicago pizza in the hotel- and Loving it!
